Even on a cloudy day, skin cancer prevention advocate Marcia Cross
protects her fair skin under a large white hat as she exits a nail salon in Santa Monica yesterday.
The 'Desperate Housewives' star is the spokeswoman for the awareness group Skin Cancer Takes Friends and spends the time she's not working - or spending time with the twins - warning of the dangers of tanning and promoting the use of sunscreen and regular visits with a dermatologist.
The actress, who has a family history of the disease says, 'I’m not a sun worshiper and I want to convince people not to
be, which is a hard sell.'
Her message was even a hard sell to her husband, Tom Mahoney, who needed a skin cancer scare of his own to take care of his skin.
Says Marcia, 'I’ve really had to nag to get him to take care of his skin and,
sure enough, he was at the dermatologist for something else and the
doctor wound up burning a little precancerous thing off his cheek and
now he puts that sunscreen on.'
Marcia's efforts should be applauded, but sadly, she's also kind of advocating that awful, orange fake bake. It's too bad there's really no happy medium here.
After last week's lengthy lunch and shopping excursion with pal Sharon Stone, Melanie Griffith made a return visit to Beverly Hills boutique Les Habitudes yesterday.
Arriving alone this time to the frou-frou boutique, Melanie was a woman on a mission, shopping for a dress for her 12th anniversary celebration with hubby Antonio Banderas. Has it really been that long? I still remember when Madonna was mooning all over Antonio in 'Truth or Dare.' I'm old.
The 50-year-old actress still manages to turn heads, which I would assume you would have to do to keep a Latin lover like the ageless Antonio happy.
Gwen Stefani looks slick and smooth but ready to pop as she hits up Tex-Mex Cafe in the city of angels.
Check out the super pregnant mama politely ignoring the paparazzi as she arrives at the joint and later heads home with hunky hubby Gavin Rossdale.
Oh yeah, those people at the end there were at dinner too. Those are Gwen's bandmates. Adrian Young (and his gf) followed by Tony Kanal (and his iconic hair) and Tom Dumont (and his gf).
It's nice to see that Gwen still graces her bandmates with her
presence. The ska group has been on hiatus since Gwen focused on her self solo career in 2004, but Gwen recently spilled the beans on a 2009 album and concert tour to come.
The No Doubters might be coupled up/married/having babies/boring/old/whatever, but they've still got juice in 'em yet!
Teri Hatcher was the woman in red yesterday in the Big Apple as she taped an interview with David Letterman, promoting Sunday's season finale of 'Desperate Housewives.' The segment will air on Friday's show.
Apparently, Teri's been able to bury the hatchet with the late night talk show host after an on-air incident about year-and-a-half ago when David, during one of his monologues, talked about the discovery of an ancient, but well-preserved cupcake, and cracked, 'I thought the world’s oldest cupcake was Teri Hatcher!' Ouch.
Word of the joke got to Teri, who was none too pleased. But it's nice to see that she was able to put it past her and move on.
Hunky Jason Taylor, who is going to lead the Miami Dolphins to at least an 8-8 season this year (oh, please, oh please, my Dolphin-loving heart can't take the losses much longer) joined his fellow 'Dancing with the Stars' competitors, including Cheryl Burke and Cristian de la Fuente at Villa Lounge in LA last night for a little judgment-free hoofing.
Is there some clause in the 'DWTS' contract that dictates that these guys have to hang out together 24/7? I think I'd need a break from them every once in a while. Well, I wouldn't need a break from Cristian.
Jason, who's still in the running for the big disco ball trophy, impressed 'Dancing' judge Len Goodman with his foxtrot and paso doble last night. He declared, 'Like a dolphin glides in the sea, that’s how you glide across the dance floor.'
As much as I'm rooting for Jason, I think he's needed much more at Dolphins training camp.
R&B diva Mariah Carey looks like she's still celebrating her recent marriage to actor Nick Cannon. The happy couple were spotted on their way home after a night out at the Gyu-Kaku restaurant in West Hollywood.
Nick climbed over his blushing bride, who sat in the back seat of her limo with her husband's jacket around her shoulders.
Mariah talked about her somewhat spontaneous wedding on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show and said that she and Nick hope to have a wedding ceremony every year, especially since hairstylists and make-up artists nearly outnumbered the guests at the private beachfront ceremony.
When the question of kids popped up, Mariah was a bit vague in her answer, telling Ellen, 'I always said...if I found the right person who I felt would be on the same page as me in term of raising kids and having the same belief system and not having one parent going 'don’t do this' and the other’s going 'this is the best...I’ve always had a weird thing about it because my parents divorced when I was three and I didn’t have many examples of what was the norm.'
I wonder how many hairdressers and stylists would have to be in attendance for a Mariah childbirth?
Rachel Bilson looks cute and trendy, but a little grandma-ish, as she hits up a West Hollywood deli.
No sign of her many pet dogs or that hot piece of male ass she gets to make out with off and on-screen.
Rachel was in New York with Hayden Christensen (aforementioned piece...also her boyfriend) until last week co-starring in their second movie since falling in looooove on the set of 'Jumper.'
Wouldn't it be such a full circle moment if they broke up on the set of this movie??

Still-pregnant singer Gwen Stefani and her hubby, Gavin Rossdale - assistant (I thought it was Gavin, which was wishful thinking on my part) enjoyed dinner last night at at the Marix Tex Mex Cafe in West Hollywood.
Along for the evening were Gwen's No Doubt band members Adrian Young and Tony Kanal, who, if you're up on your No Doubt history, dated Gwen for many years - and their relationship was the inspiration for the hit 'Don't Speak.'
I certainly hope they were talking about a new album. I miss No Doubt so much.
As for Gavin, he recently confessed that he often feels like an 'appendage' to his more famous wife. He confessed on his MySpace blog that, 'It takes a tough man to be married to a force of nature like Gwen. 'Rocker hubby,' if I ever see that phrase again. It's challenging and it forces a lot of humility.'
Noted. I, for one, will never refer to you as Gwen's 'rocker hubby' ever again - as long as you get Bush back together as well.
